Our Story

Diversitat, also known as Geelong Ethnic Communities Council, is a registered charity and a not-for-profit community service organisation.

Established in 1976, Diversitat has a core set of services and business operations that support the multicultural communities and the disadvantaged in the region. First known as the Geelong Migrant Resource Centre and later,  the Geelong Ethnic Communities Council, we now trade as Diversitat.

The change in name to Diversitat in 2005 reflects the broader diversity of services offered  across a wider geographical area. Today we offer services in settlement, community development, youth services, aged support, training and education, as well as arts and events. We also manage The Pulse Radio and Television, Wholefoods Pantry and Kitchen, and the Belmont Oppe Shoppe.

40 Years

of experience

Since our inception, the core mission of Diversitat has been to ensure that ethnic groups, organisations and individuals are given the opportunity to develop their potential and fulfil their aspirations as equal members of the community.

From humble beginnings with one office, Diversitat now operates from ten locations in the Barwon Region.

We offer a range of settlement services for new migrants, community programs, aged support services for older people from CALD backgrounds, services for young people, training and education, arts and events including Pako Festa, and a number of enterprises which you can visit and support.

Diversitat is affiliated with 51 cultural communities in the Barwon region, who contribute to, and direct the vision, values and general policies of the organisation.

In 2016 we celebrated 40 years of providing services to new migrants and others in the community. We acknowledge the drive and commitment of our members and our affiliated communities, and we’re proud that we have remained true to our values of dignity, respect and acceptance.
