The Diversitat Christmas Appeal has been established to provide much needed social support to elderly people from multicultural communities within the Geelong and Barwon region. Last year alone, Diversitat Aged Support assisted over 580 clients, from 27 different countries of birth with 21 languages other than English. Diversitat Aged Support provides social support programs designed to promote our clients independence and remain in their home for as long as possible. Our services and support include the delivery of over 5,000 community meals, and providing social and physical activities such as the community garden, arts and craft, recreation, exercise programs, day trips, social engagement and a Café Style Support service for carers.
Whilst for many, Christmas is traditionally a time where family and friends come together, it is important for us to also remember the wellbeing and loneliness that some members of our community can feel during this time. At Diversitat Aged Support, our programs provide ongoing social connection and support throughout the year, as well as providing much needed friendship during this time of the year.
“We would like to thank Deakin University for kick starting our Christmas Appeal with a $1,500 donation. All funds raised from this year’s appeal will go directly to creating new respite programs to ensure that our elderly clients continue to feel connected to the local community. Our target this year is $20,000 so please support this important worthwhile cause,” said Michael Martinez, Diversitat CEO.
