On Tuesday 24th November, Diversitat Training held the first of many of its Training Graduations. This graduation was for the School Based Training and VET in Schools students from all over Geelong Werribee and Colac. We had 186 students start in our SBAT and VETiS programs in 2015 and we will graduate 147 students. The night was a fantastic end to the program and the pride and sheer joy of not only the students, families and all of the Diversitat staff involved could be felt in the room.
Mariah Smyth was awarded our SBAT of the year for 2015 and considering the personal challenges Mariah overcame to successfully complete her Certificate III in Health Services Assistance she was a very worthy recipient of this award. We had 7 nominations for SBAT of the year and all students were awarded a commendation award for excellence in the SBAT 2015 Program.
We had graduates from Certificate III in Community Services Work, Certificate III in Companion Animal Services, Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, Certificate III in Education Support, Certificate III in Horticulture, Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, Certificate IV in Youth Work, and Certificate III in Media.
We also awarded our 2016 Emerging Community Leaders Scholarship recipients to 5 deserving young people who will undertake a Certificate IV in Community Services along with an emerging community leader’s workshop. These students were nominated by their schools and will be an asset to the community services industry.
As well as all of our graduates and scholarship recipients we presented one of our EAL students with a commendation award. Ziad “Peter” Baidare joined our horticulture class to assist with our final garden project, conducted at a private residence in Geelong West. Peter and the team of students transformed a blank over grown plot into a tranquil and fruitful garden for the Cheynne household including a full irrigation system, garden beds, fruit trees, vegetables as well as a turfed area for the 3 children to enjoy. Merri Cheynne couldn’t thank the students enough for the joy and fun this project has provided for her family.
Now this whole year couldn’t have been possible without the ongoing support of all of the SBAT team; Chloe McCarthy whose overflowing support and commitment was immeasurable, The trainers:- Cheryl Ali, Meredith Malthouse, Chris Edgar, Mark Tonzing, Liz Collins, Renee Stead, Susan Irwin, Tracey Wielens, Polly Musgrove and Michelle Newick, support staff Bruce Graham for his work on the Scholarship Program, John Taylor for his certificates, programs and marketing support throughout the year, Lisa Trevorrow and Matt Gogarty who have helped with resources and enrolments and events throughout the year, all of the Diversitat arms who have hosted students for placements with some wonderful feedback and above all else Garry Gow, Manager Diversitat Training who has supported our success and growth well into 2016.
