Skiff project

Geelong St Ayles Skiff Community Project

Diversitat communities are excited to be a part of the The Geelong St Ayles Skiff Community Project, major skiff-building initiative here in Geelong, with communities coming together to build the first two of a planned ten St Ayles Skiffs. The first two boats are being built side-by-side at the Deakin Univerversity Waterfron Campus.

These two are the first of ten St Ayles Skiffs which are hoped to build as a major community initiative for our city.  It has been a perfect platform around which to gather our many, diverse cultural communities in activities which show the amazing depth of cultures that we have in this town.

Some Iraqis, Iranians and Slovenians of Geelong are participating in the project with no experience being in boats let alone building one.

For all of them, this is an opportunity to mix and learn – other cultures, other skills and other ways of life.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information about this fantastic project with the boats to set sail at the Wooden Boat Festival 10th – 12th March 2018
