3,500 greek people altogether from all aprts of Greece including Crete and Cyprus

Early 1950’s – via boat in most capital cities particularly Melbourne and Perth

What National Days, religious days or special events does your community celebrate?

Easter, Christmas and Christenings, 25 th March 1921 – Greek Independence Day, 28 th October 1940 - Name Day, 15 th August – St Mary’s Church Day

White tops and blue shirts or pants. Traditional costumes also from various parts of Greece and the islands.

Greek instrument – bauzouki. Greek dance group.

(if any)

Lamb on spit, souvlaki, homemade bread, olives, fetta cheese and salad, Greek cakes and coffee.

 



Additional Information

The community consists of a senior citizens group, Greek school primary & secondary, Women’s fundraising group and Greek dance group. We have a community hall for meetings and a Greek Orthodox Church.
