September marks the start of Spring, the AFL and NRL Finals and last but not least the school holiday program organised by the Community Development team.
These school holidays were fun activities organised for all ages. They commenced with tennis lessons held at the Western Heights Uniting Church- thanks to Bruce, Heather, Betty and Rom for volunteering their time over four days and providing fun tennis lessons to the participants.
Tuesday saw 80 young children from 5 to 14 years of age travel to Sacred Heart College to take part in an annual round robin activity day. The children were treated to a BBQ lunch, sporting and craft activities throughout the course of the day and got to make some new friends.
Wednesday saw families transported to Deakin University Waurn Ponds for a picnic day out. This event was well attended and enjoyed by all.
On Thursday three newly arrived families (who arrived the week before) were reunited at Serendip Sanctuary. It was the first time that these newly arrived families experienced Australian wildlife, a barbie and later in the day, a trip to the beach. The phones came out and selfies were taken as the children ran straight for the water! What a great way to welcome new arrivals to Geelong!
