‘Hear Our Stories’ is a free ten week program that commenced on February 2017 with the aim of teaching participants the secrets of good public speaking and how to deal with the media.
Some of the subjects covered in this program were: how to tell a personal story, how to handle difficult questions and how to adjust a presentation to suit different audiences. This program comes to an end next week and as a result, nine public speakers from a diversity of backgrounds have been trained. The participants who have completed the program include people from a refugee and asylum seeker background and skilled migrants.
They have traveled from Iraq, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and South Sudan. The participants are available to present to service clubs, schools and other forums to tell their stories of migration.
The long-term outcome of the project is creating harmony and increasing understanding amongst the broader communities.
The program will be continued for more two years.
