In June our Diversitat 1 Netball Team (girls from a refugee background aged 9-11) participated in the final of the Corio Netball Association Netta competition. Winning all of their round-robin games, and every game of the season, it’s safe to say these girls have picked up the game in the short amount of time that they have been playing.
The Diversitat 2 team (girls aged 11-15) made it to the semi-final and put up a great fight until the final siren but unfortunately lost by two goals.
Coming from countries where girls typically don’t play sport to progressing to where they are now, it has been amazing to see the girls’ transition into netball and we are excited to see what the next season brings.
A big thanks to Corio Netball Association, Geelong Connected Communities, Leisure Networks and Diversitat volunteer Colleen for helping to make these girls’ dreams a reality.
