On Friday 7th April, Diversitat’s Aged Support area played host to the 3rd event as part of our Friday Meals Program for 2017.
We were treated to a two course traditional Karen meal of Daw Bout – fragrant fried rice with marinated chicken drumsticks, followed by sweet green coconut rice for dessert.
The delicious meal was cooked by volunteers from the local Ethnic group Karen, from Myanmar/Burma: Jeffrey Kler Tha, Gideon, Taru Wah, Htoo Lay and Paw Lieu Nwee.
The centre was a buzz as the small team set to work preparing the meal, using traditional methods and ingredients. Within minutes of preparation commencing, the centre was immersed in spicy aromatic smells, causing our mouths to water as we waited eagerly for lunch time.
We thank all involved for volunteering their time and skills to make all of our guests such a tasty meal, show-casing traditional Karen food fair. I’ve had plenty of fabulous feedback, well done to this community!
Our next scheduled Meals Program event is May 12th, a two course Thai meal, served from 12 noon.
Staff, clients and friends of Diversitat are invited.
Please call reception on 5222 7275 to book your spot.
For $10 you will receive a main meal & dessert, with a drink (soft drink or coffee).
Our Meals Program is a wonderful day on our monthly calendar that occurs on the 2nd Friday of each month at our community centre, located at Diversitat Aged Support, 9-15 Clarence St Geelong West. It is a day that we celebrate the taste of diversity, sharing a scrumptious meal with clients, friends and staff of Diversitat.
We look forward to seeing you!
