Aged Support, Life Stories

Life Story & Photo Book Official Launch

Diversitat Aged Support’s Life Story Book program is an initiative promoting self-centered support for older people from non English speaking backgrounds.

The program provides participants the chance to tell their life story; validating their own history, including the twists and turns along their journey through life.

Diversitat’s Aged Support Team identify potential participants of the Life Story Book program, interview participants, transcribe and edit interviews, format the text and images, before creating the finished product in a ‘Life Story’ format.

During the interview process the staff find out what is special to the participant and together, their unique life story is created. A relationship of trust is built between the staff member and the participant, which encapsulates what Diversitat Aged Support is here to do.

These books are a wonderful keep sake gift for the participant and their loved ones. The interviewing and story telling process has also benefited the participant greatly; validating their life, and giving them a sense of pride.

This program has seen the creation of 16 keepsake books during the last 12 months. The Official Launch was held at Diversitat Aged Support on Tuesday 11th October, where all participants were honored and officially handed their book. As part of the launch participants were also asked to read a significant excerpt from their book.

The event was a big success, and enjoyed by staff, participants and loved ones.
