Seeking volunteers and participants for the ‘Hola Amigo’ Visiting Program – providing company and social activities to elderly people at risk of social isolation

Diversitat is seeking both volunteers and participants for the ‘Hola Amigo’ Visiting Program which provides company and social activities to an older people who is at risk of, or suffering from social isolation and loneliness.

The program pairs an older person with a trained volunteer for weekly or fortnightly visits.

The program is FREE to eligible older members of our community and is a Community Visitors Scheme initiative funded by the Australian Government.

To be eligible to access the program, participants must be living at home and hold a Home Care Package (HCP) or have been assessed and approved for a HCP.

Being a participant

We are funded to provide this program to people living in the Barwon South West Region, who may be: at risk of, or experiencing, social or financial disadvantages; someone from a culturally diverse background, an LGBTIQ elder, or someone with dementia.

Being a volunteer

Visits from volunteers could include things like lovely conversations over a cuppa, coffee or lunch outings, cultural activities, craft, gardening together, shopping, library or community garden trips, walks, IT lessons, or card and board games.

In some instances, a visit could simply consist of a phone call or chat via FaceTime or Skye.
