Returnship in the Healthy Living Centre’s kitchen

The Healthy Living Centre is MIXING it up!

From Returnshiper to Head Honcho.

While the Boss is away Raje steps up to the (hot) plate!

A few months back the Healthy Living Centre (HLC) advertised a Hospitality Returnship (an internship for people with previous experience in the industry) through the Gordon.

Utilising inter-departmental collaboration Rajeswari Ranjithkumar, a program participant of Job Options for Individuals Seeking Asylum, was appointed to learn from the best Camille through a 12 week paid internship in the HLC kitchen.

Soon after Raje was offered an ongoing position within the organisation due to her infectious smile and excellent work ethic.

This week Raje is stepping up to take control of the kitchen while our very own Camille is away.

This is a great example of how an individual seeking asylum can be over-looked even with previous skills and experience.

By giving individuals seeking asylum access to alternative employment pathways they are able to shine in their specific field – just like Raje!

Last week Raje was finally able to buy a car! Before securing a job at the HLC, Raje has had to use PT to get to casual work placements, organise the kids, and complete errands. Access to reliable transport is a game changer!

What a huge couple of weeks for this super star.

Well done Raje on all your success so far and thank you for organising all things necessary to  feed the masses while Camille is away.
