The team of six young initiators from multicultural backgrounds launch their video at Diversitat this week

Geelong youth taking action on youth homelessness in Geelong

A Geelong team of six youth from refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds have created a video documentary aimed at creating awareness about youth homelessness in Geelong.

The team launched their video this week at Diversitat’s Northern Hub, after working for seven weeks on writing, producing and starring in the short video as part of their work in the Young Initiators Geelong youth-led project.

The project was conducted by the Centre For Multicultural Youth (CMY) in collaboration with the Strategic Engagement Coordinator of Barwon South West Region and the Community Development team of Diversitat.

The program focused on developing the leadership skills, experiential activities, group discussions, social media and self-reflection to explore leadership, diversity, values, empathy and different ideas about community.

These Young Initiators have also donated $1500 to “Kids Under Cover”, an organisation which works to provide studio residences and scholarships to young people in Geelong and other areas around Victoria.

The Young Initiators are encouraging everyone who watches their video to donate to Kids Under Cover.
