Students in our Xpress VCAL program have turned to hands-on gardening and cooking for their Work Related Skills classes this semester. Students have been given the task of transforming a vacant plot at the Northern Community HUB. Having been firstly introduced to potential hazards as part of the planning process, the students then participated in an induction which involved being introduced to safety procedures, PPE and a brainstorming discussion with Polly Musgrove- Community Garden Coordinator. Students have begun the process of removing weeds turning soil and are now working on boxing in the plot. Our students have proactively gone out and purchased timber, marked out paths and are almost at the stage of planting vegetables We are really looking forward to seeing what they can produce with a chance to turn their produce into a meal at the end of the project. Stay tuned for more updates!
