It is always exciting when new opportunities come our way and we recently had such an occasion when we were invited by the Royal Geelong Agricultural & Pastoral Society to participate in the 2017 Royal Geelong Show.
With thanks to our wonderful volunteer’s, Deakin corporate supporters, students from our Equip and SBAT (Student Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships) programs, and the culinary skills of Wholefoods; we operated the ‘Diversitat Diner’ from the old ‘Lions Den’ Pavilion.
On offer were scrumptious scones, tummy warming toasties, a range of vegan slices and fun conversation. For some of our students it was the first time they had sampled a scone with jam and cream.
This was a wonderful new fundraising opportunity for Diversitat with over $2,000 earned over the four day event, with proceeds going to support our Settlement Programs and Services.
In addition, our communities were also invited to present a cooking demonstration highlighting some traditional and cultural cuisine. Thank you to our Indonesian and Iraqi communities for your participation.
We hope to see you all at the Show next year.
