Multicultural NDIS Community Connectors to deliver disability awareness to communities

Diversitat has recently welcomed three new staff as Multicultural NDIS Community Connectors to the team.

The project objectives are to deliver disability awareness activities aimed at target communities and to link potential NDIS participants with the NDIA and with relevant and appropriate support pathways.

The team will provide advocacy with potential participants as part of system engagement, work collaboratively with existing NDIA community engagement activities, and provide advice around systemic barriers to accessing the NDIS for CALD people with a disability.

The community connectors will work across the program areas of the organisation and across those regions to support people with disabilities to access the NDIS.

The roles will address the fact that only 7% of CALD people with disabilities are currently accessing the NDIS and that figure should be at 24%.

The funds are administered by the Federated Ethnic Communities Council of Australia (FECCA) with NDIS Community Connectors operating across the nation. Five service providers are acting collaboratively across Victoria supporting 24 funded Community Connector positions.
