A group of Afghan women participated in a range of programs throughout 2017 that focused on Gender Equity, Safety in the Community and Women’s Leadership.
They were invited to the Victorian Parliament by Christine Couzens MP The State Member for Geelong to experience firsthand how issues and concerns are raised and the process for making decisions that affect citizens
Christine and staff at her office including Gail Cook hosted the women who as well as touring the Parliament building and attending sittings in both the lower and upper house also attended a lunch and presentation on the Ethical Clothing industry.
The women’s excitement was evident with comments such as “I never thought I would ever go to a Parliament and such a beautiful place” to “ This was the best day of my life in Australia’
A huge Thank you to Christine & her staff
