The Community Culture and Connection project is a place-based program funded by the Victorian Government, Department of Justice and Regulation. Youth participants from both the local Wathaurong community and newly arrived communities engaged in a series of creative workshops to co-design an educational walking track connecting our respectful organisations, Diversitat and Wathaurong Aboriginal co-operative through storytelling and place.
This holistic cross cultural approach aims to prevent and minimise cultural and social discrimination and marginalisation that impact and affect aboriginal and CALD young people aged 12-18 years residing in Corio, Norlane and to reduce their risks of entering the justice system.
The project is now officially launched and open to the public. I encourage you to experience the project and go for a walk. Start your walk at Diversitat, enjoy the history of migration displayed in all the signs and finish your walk at Wathaurong Aboriginal co-operative for more learning about the traditional owners of the land and the story of the surrounding environment.
