The community is getting behind young people with a refugee background who are eager to learn about the world of work in Australia.
Mentor Karen from St John of God Hospital has been helping Eh Ler (top photo) with her resume, writing cover letters and preparing for job interviews.
“We both have busy lives. We’ve met a couple of times in a local café, and we’ve had a lot of text and email contact which seems to work well too.”
Eh Ler also volunteered during the set up and running of the Torquay Rotary Book Fair. She is at university and is looking for part-time work to support herself in her final years of study. Volunteering offered the chance to develop her retail skills.
Rhonda Anchen, Book Fair Coordinator, was especially impressed with Eh Ler’s initiative and work ethic. “Eh Ler liaised well with Rotarians and customers during the three days she volunteered. We were extremely impressed with her contribution.”
Diversitat’s Equip! program supports young people 15- 24 years with planning, industry site visits, volunteering and work experience opportunities.
“Eh Ler is a confident young woman with a real commitment to being part of our community. We are making great progress in our friendship and as Eh Ler returns to her nursing studies, I look forward to being able to offer support where I am able.”
Thank you Karen – and all our valued Equip! mentors and supporters.
