Westfield Local Heroes is a new community recognition and grants program, connecting and enriching communities. It discovers and celebrates individuals who promote social well being and/or harmony in our communities through their work, programs or activities, across one or more of the three social values of Family, Youth Opportunity and Inclusions.
Diversitat has nominated Sorayya to become a Westfield Local Hero and needs your help to be a winner!
Sorayya has made a significant and ongoing contributions to people from a CALD background with a disability. Her contribution to the community has been entirely voluntary and she continues to help and support people in her everyday existence by allowing them to learn from the experiences that she has had so they may tread a similar path more easily.
Her experience as a migrant and a NDIS recipient has given her insight into what it is like to go through the complex and onerous NDIS process and with this knowledge she helps and supports other refugees and migrants with a disability. She also provides formal criticism to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and institutions such as Deakin University and other NDIS service providers in the Geelong area.
