‘Ways to Welcome’ Diverse Safe Place Project

The Diverse Safe Place Project has been funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the projects main aim is to create inclusion for culturally diverse individuals, living with a disability. To do this, we have designed a website with tools and resources for organisations and business’s to have easy access to ideas and tips on how to be more welcoming and inclusive.

This project has been worked on across three states; Townsville QLD, Sydney NSW and here in Geelong. These tools and resources have been developed through co-design processes with people from a CALD background with disability including some of our own clients here at Diversitat.

On Thursday 30th August, Diversitat’s Diverse Safe Place Project facilitated a workshop to pilot the ‘Ways to Welcome’ website.  Participants included a number of local Community Centres, the Geelong Cats, local Libraries, disability services, Geelong Refugee Youth Group and various Diversitat staff members.

The group gave us some very useful feedback on how we could improve the website to ensure it was not only user friendly but also informative and something organisations and business would access.  We would like to thank those who came along and gave their opinions and advice – it was a very useful and robust discussion.

The website is now almost ready to be launched on the 5th October and we, along with our co-design group are excited to be a part of such a great project. Please feel free to check out the website at www.waystowelcome.org and of course, utilize it as much as possible.
